Squirrel Control & Proofing

 Squirrel Control & Proofing

Squirrels can cause real problems if they are able to gain access to your home or business. They can be extremely noisy not to mention destructive.

There are 2 types of squirrels in the UK, red and grey. They are easily distinguishable because of their colouring. Grey squirrels are usually a bit bigger than red squirrels, and red squirrels have fluffier ears compared to grey squirrels.

You are most likely to come across grey squirrels as they are more adept to living in urban areas. Squirrels like to eat a variety of food like nuts, seeds, plant bulbs and soft fruits. They are known for the burying of their food. When the weather turns colder and food is harder to source, squirrels will dig up that extra food they sourced in the warmer months.

Squirrels like to gnaw. They gnaw on wood in the wild to break it down for nesting. If a squirrel makes their way into your home, they will not only gnaw on wooden beams and floorboards, but also electrical wires, clothes and cardboard boxes. This can not only be expensive to fix but can also be very dangerous.

Squirrels are very noisy. They are most active in the early hours of the morning so if you are unfortunate enough to have a family of squirrels in your loft, you are sure to know about it.

They can access your home through small spaces. A loose roof tile or damaged brickwork can offer easy access. Squirrels are great climbers so if you have trees or ivy near your home, it can make getting into your home even easier for them.
