How To Prevent Summertime Pest Infestations

Just as you get ready for the summer weather by stocking up on sun cream and BBQ essentials, you must prepare for the pests that outdoor gatherings bring too.

It’s better to be pro-active than let the problem escalate and there are many ways to prevent wasps, fleas/ticks, silverfish and moths….

Before summer arrives consider doing these 6 things:

-      keep moisture around the house to a minimum by investing in a dehumidifier, especially in basements
-      block any cracks and holes up around the bottom of your house
-      keep your grass well-mowed gardens and landscaping tidy so pests can’t hide
-      don’t leave pet or human food dishes out for too long (especially fruit)
-      don’t leave over-ripened food and spoilt foods out on counter tops
-      examine your pets before they come into your home, especially if you they have long fur

Pests like wasps, silverfish and moths can cause substantial damage to your home and belongings if not treated properly. Although silverfish and moths aren’t a risk to humans, wasps certainly are – so we always recommend calling a professional pest technician to exterminate wasps.

DIY treatments can aggravate the problem and pose a risk to you, your children and pets if undertaken in an incorrect manner.

We do suggest that if at any point you see multiple types of pests over a period of time it is best to call a certified technician that can assess the severity of the problem and rid you of it, whilst making sure they don’t immediately return.
